Ingredients
- 2 cups Self Rising Flour
- 1/4 cup Fat of Choice
- Butter, cold
- Vegetable Shortening
- Bacon Fat
- Lard
- 2/3 to 1 cup Liquid of Choice
- Buttermilk
- Milk
- Cream
- Soda Water
- 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter, melted
Preparation
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Line a baking pan with parchment paper. Use the melted butter to grease the parchment.
In a dough bowl, cut the fat into the flour until the mixture looks like cornmeal. Add 2/3 of the liquid and fold into the flour mixture with a spatula. Keep folding until the mixture comes together to form a ball.
Dump dough ball onto a floured biscuit blanket. Knead 5 or 6 times. Gather dough into a ball, rough side dough. Roll out to 1/2″ thickness, fold and repeat 4 or 5 times. Cut biscuits with a floured cutter. (Cut straight down, never twisting.)
Place the biscuits on the buttered parchment paper. They should be close enough to kiss each other. Butter the top of the biscuits and sprinkle the slightest bit of sugar over the pan.
Pop in the oven for 9 minutes. Turn the pan 1/4 turn and bake for 9 more minutes until biscuits are golden brown on top. You may turn on the broiler for a minute or so if you need to.
Best served with homemade strawberry jam or babd|Hall Biscuit Gravy!
